CSAP Testing Time is here!

This week, 3rd graders will begin the CSAP tests in reading, writing, and math. 4th-6th graders will begin testing in the weeks following and continue into March.
CSAP Testing.

CSAP stands for Colorado Student Assessment Program. It is a test designed to measure student achievement in relationship to the Colorado Model Content Standards. These standards are expectations specifying what students should know at particular points in their education. The CSAP provides a snapshot of student achievement in reading, writing, mathematics, and science.

To Help Prepare Your Child for CSAP Testing:

Here are some tips for parents to help their students do their best everyday and especially during the CSAP testing period. We ask for your help in the following areas.

Please help your child prepare by doing the following:

  • get a good nights sleep (at least 8 - 10 hours)
  • eat a healthy breakfast
  • arrive at school on time and is here for the testing period
(please reschedule any appointments for after the testing if possible)
  • have a positive “can do” student attitude
  • Plan ahead to ensure that your child is present and on time for the test. Do not plan any medical or dental appointments on testing days.

What are some test taking tips that will help my child take CSAP? Remind your child:

  • Read the test directions carefully
  • Read the questions carefully and be sure to read all of the answer choices before responding
  • If you don’t know an answer to a question, skip it and go on to the next question
  • If there is time at the end of the test, then return to the unanswered question
  • Eliminate any answers that you know are wrong, and then consider only those that might be right.
  • If you finish early, check your answers

We know that as a partner in your child’s education, you will do all you can to help ensure your child’s success and we greatly appreciate your support.

Reading Is FUNdamental!

During the week of December 1st, 2008, Harrington had its first RIF book distribution of the school year.
To get things started, we invited the Denver Zoo to our school to put on an assembly called "Animal Expeditions."  Our friends Amy and Tara from the zoo brought in some amazing animals and did a fantastic job of showing them off and telling us a little bit about their habits and their habitats.  Among the special guests were: Whipper (a baby alligator), JoJo (a Ball Boa), Hissy (a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach), Alex (a Red Tail Hawk), Pele (an Armadillo), and a Kookaburra.  It was a very exciting performance!
The RIF book distribution was also great fun.  There were lots of wonderful books to choose from, and we also had a contest (guess how many squares are in the jar); there were 4 winners who got to choose a free book as their prize.  The winners were: Rafael Morales, Tamia Wright, Julia Valdez, and Jasmine Pasillas.
Please take a moment to look at some of the photos from "Animal Expeditions" and RIF
Thank you!
